Meeting with dubai kool kid Parvané Barret

My name is Parvané Barret, and I’m a French/Persian, living in the bustling city of Dubai. I’ve lived

only 8 years of my life in Bordeaux, South of France, so you can technically say I grew up in the UAE. I’ve lived here for 10 years, and I’m glad to actually call this city my home. I live with my mother and my sister, and not to

forget my two dogs.

TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR PERSONALITY AND PASSION.

I’m quite social and outgoing; I love to meet new people and hear everybody’s stories and backgrounds. I love music and hearing people laugh and having fun. I’m very passionate about expressing ideas and giving a voice to younger generations.

YOU ARE A UNIQUE SENSE OF FASHION,

FROM WHERE COME FROM YOUR INSPIRATION AND HOW WILL YOU DEFINE YOUR STYLE?

My style really changes all the time. It depends On my mood, and how I’m feeling

that particular day. My style has become way more feminine now since I’m maturing and growing up everyday… and I love that. I would definitely choose sneakers over heels because that's the kind of girl I am! But don’t get me wrong, I love dressing up and feeling glam. It’s so much fun.

I really get inspired by my mother’s wardrobe and what she used to rock back then. I also find that social media such as Instagram and the internet allows me and other people to find what they like and dislike. Instagram is definitely a huge help when I lose inspiration.

DO YOU WEAR LOCAL BRANDS? HOW DO YOU SPOT THEM?

I wear my boyfriends brand, Precious Trust. It has been a crazy journey seeing him build his pieces and to look at how far he has come, is really mind-blowing. Shabab clothing too; a clothing brand created by a close friend of mine, that I also wear. These two brands are really the only local brand I wear, other than that there is nothing else that really caught my eye yet!

WHERE DO YOU HANGOUT WITH YOUR FRIEND?

I love hanging out in the more rural spots of Dubai. Where real life is present. Markets, gold souks, and second-hand charity clothes shops. There are also many events that take place that we all get invited to, so it’s always fun to party and have fun with all my closest friends.

GIVE US YOUR POINT OF VIEW OF HOW THE ARTISTIC SCENE OF THE REGION EVOLVE.

I think it's beautiful how quickly the UAE has blossomed into a land full of opportunities and artistic routes that anyone can just hop on. The region has really opened its eyes and allowed artistic change to shape itself. Dubai has come so far in such a little time too, and I can't way to see whats next for all these artists and curators.

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO REPLY TO PEOPLE WHO QUALIFIED THE REGION AS “POOR ARTISTICALLY"?

I do agree that Dubai art scene is not as developed as major cities like Paris or London, but I can tell you that it has really developed in terms of emerging designers and artists.

HOW MANY LANGUAGE DO YOU SPEAK, AND UNDERSTAND?

I speak English and French, and I understand a little of Arabic and Farsi!

DO YOU THINK THAT GROWING UP IN THE REGION GIVES YOU A MORE OPEN STATE OF MIND?  EXPLAIN WHY.

In Dubai, I feel like anything is possible if you really put your mind to it.

WHAT KIND OF WOMEN INSPIRES YOU?

Women that are not afraid to speak their mind and that are daring with their fashion choices look up to bold and confident women; I really admire them.
